Kenya international defender David Owino is pleased to be back in the FAZ Super League after helping Napsa Stars make a quick return to top-flight football.
Napsa have been promoted to the FAZ Super League just a season after they were demoted.
The Kenyan international stuck with Napsa in the FAZ National Division 1 after joining them in the 2020/2021 season from Zesco United where he had won four league and three ABSA Cup titles.
“As a player, I am happy to be back in the Super League at least there is more exposure there than in the National First Division,” Owino said.
“First of all, we won’t be under pressure. We have achieved the first objective which was to return to the Super League.
“As a team, I am sure we have a plan and we won’t repeat the same mistakes so that we don’t come back to the National League.
“But I am sure we will compete with the big boys.
“I believe we are in division one just because of a slip-up. If you look at the majority of players in our team, we have all-seasoned players who have been in the Premier League before.”
Owino and his teammates sealed their promotion in style on April 30 when they lifted the 2022 ABSA Cup after defeating newly crowned FAZ Super League champions Red Arrows 1-0 in the final at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
“I think the game was tough. They are truly champions and we had to dig deep and luckily that is how we were able to win,” the Kenyan defender said.
“As a player, you always want to win something and I am happy to have been part of it on Saturday and now I have added to the three that I have already won.”
