Shepolopolo Zambia striker Rachel Kundananji has described the teams’ 2022 Morocco Women’s AFCON Group B tournament draw as tough.
Morocco is hosting the 2022 WAFCON from July-23.
Zambia will face Tunisia, Togo and four-time runners-up Cameroon against whom they have a grudge match looming on match-day-one.
Shepolopolo beat Cameroon to Africa’s lone ticket in the 2020 Olympic qualifiers after overturning a 3-2 away loss to win 2-1 in Lusaka to see them qualify to the Tokyo Games on away goals rule.
“We have played Cameroon many times before. We have won, drawn and lost against them, so we know how difficult it is to beat and play them. It is a tough group but we just need to be strong and focus so that we can win the first game,” Kundananji said.
Zambia and Cameroon meet on July 3 in Casablanca.
Chipolopolo will then head into debut dates against Tunisia and Togo on July 6 and July 9 respectively to wrap-up.
The top two teams plus two third best placed finishers in the group stages of the twelve-team tournament will advance to the quarterfinals.
“It will be more important to win the first game heading into the last two games. OK, what I am trying to say is we just have to win all our three games,” said the striker from Spanish Club SD Eibar.
“Our aim is to reach the next stage then the semifinals and probably win it because we just have to qualify for the World Cup this time that is our target.”
Shepolopolo are heading for their second straight WAFCON but have never progressed beyond the group stage in what will be their third overall participation at the tournament.
