Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba has hinted that Red Arrows are favourites for the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League title but that the defending Zambian champions would still give it their best shot in the last five games.
Zesco trail Arrows by seven points heading into Saturday’s respective home derby dates against Buildcon at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola and Zanaco at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka respectively.
“I think for us, we just have to push our team so that we continue picking up maximum points in our remaining games,” Numba said.
“We need to consolidate our position on the log and run away from the team following us. So the games ahead of us are very crucial and important.”
Zesco are currently three points ahead of Green Eagles who held them to a scoreless draw away in Choma two games ago on March 23 before rebounding with a 1-0 Ndola derby victory over hosts Forest Rangers on April 6 at Levy Stadium.
A draw or loss against Buildcon in Zesco’s second successive Ndola derby could see Arrows needing just six points to clinch the title.
“We have always emphasized to the players that we have to fight very hard because every team wants to beat us,” Numba said.
“So for us to beat these teams, we have to be at our best. I think we still have a bit of hope. Five matches are enough and all we need is to win our games.
“We should not look at Red Arrows but win our own games.”
