Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has claimed that Pitso Mosimane’s agent attempted to negotiate a deal for the Al Ahly head coach to take charge of their arch-rivals last month.
The Red Eagles announced last week that Mosimane had been handed a two-year contract extension to keep him in Cairo until 2024.
However, Mansour revealed at a press conference on Sunday during the unveiling of new head coach Jesualdo Ferreira that Mosimane’s wife, who is also his agent, contacted the White Knights director of football in order to thrash out a deal with them.
“I swear to god Pitso Mosimane’s wife was negotiating with [director of football] Amir Mortada last month for him to coach Zamalek,” Mansour said.
“I warned Amir Mortada against negotiating with the wife of the Al-Ahmar coach, out of respect for the Al-Ahly fans.”
Mosimane has impressed during his 18-month tenure at Al Ahly, winning five trophies, including back-to-back CAF Champions League titles.
