Lumwana Radiants coach Bilton Musonda wants to be the first boss to win the ABSA Cup with a FAZ Division One team.

Promotion chasing Lumwana are playing 2018 champions Nkana in the 2022 ABSA Cup quarterfinals on March 12 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Chambishi FC and Young Buffaloes are the only Division One team’s to have reached the final in the ABSA Cup’s sixteen-year history but finished as runners-up in 2007 and 2018 respectively.

Lumwana return to the ABSA Cup for only the second time since 2015 when they made a preliminary round exit.

But Lumwana are coached by a winner in Musonda who won it in 2015 as Green Buffaloes coach.

“We will be cautious, we will not open up easily and we respect Nkana. They have been there before but no lower team has won this Cup so we want to be the first,” Musonda said.

Meanwhile, Musonda has a close relationship with Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi.

Musonda was Chambeshi’s Zambia Under-20 national team first assistant coach when they won the 2017 AFCON U20 as hosts.

“When a parent is teaching a child, he feels proud when a child succeeds. I am sure coach Chambeshi will be proud when I beat him tomorrow (Saturday),” Musonda said.
