Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba has described facing Green Eagles over the next seven days in the 2022 ABSA Cup and league as an interesting prospect.

The two side’s first play in the ABSA Cup quarterfinal this Saturday at Arthur Davies Sadium in Kitwe .

Zesco will later visit Eagles in their last leg meeting of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season during the weekend of March 19 in Choma.

Numba’s team also heads into the second match of their trilogy with Eagles after losing 2-0 at home in Ndola in Week 10 league game on November 10.

“It is interesting for both teams meeting twice in a short period of time but for us we are focusing on this ABSA Cup. We will we will think about it after Saturday,” Numba said.

“We want to progress to the next round although we were disturbed by the absence of our players who had gone to the national team.

“But we sent a coach to monitor them so that we know where they are and make it easy for us to plan for them in the game ahead of us.”

Zesco had 11 players for the three-day Chipolopolo camp in Ndola who later featured in Wednesday’s friendly for both Zambia and the Copperbelt Select teams that the latter won 1-0 in Kitwe.

Defenders Fackson Kapumbu, Solomon Sakala, Simon Silwimba, Shemmy Mayembe including midfielders Donashano Malama, Chanda Mukuka and Kelvin Kampamba all featured for Chipolopolo.

Zesco second-choice goalkeeper Gregory Sanjase, defender Samson Mkandawire plus strikers Logic Chingandu and Enock Sakala all played for the Copperbelt Select team.

Meanwhile, Zesco heads into the ABSA Cup quarterfinals without their new Kenyan striker David Oburu and veteran Winston Kalengo due to injury.
