Al Ahly have announced that their head coach Pitso Mosimane has signed a contract extension.

The accomplished South African tactician’s previous deal with the Egyptian football heavyweights was due to expire at the end of June this year having joined the club in October 2020.

Mosimane, who guided Al Ahly to back to back CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021, was linked with Qatar side Al Rayyan after he entered the final six months of his previous deal with Al Ahly.

However, the Cairo-based giants have now ended rumours indicating that Mosimane, 57, could soon leave the Red Eagles for Al Rayyan by extending his contract with the club.

“Al Ahly SC announces the extension of Pitso Mosimane’s contract for two more years after he achieved for the club,” a club statement read on Wednesday morning.

“Mosimane and his assistant signed a new contract with the club to put an end to all rumours that were circulating during the previous period

“Based on Al-Ahly’s great confidence in its coach, Pitso Mosimane, and in the translation of the many achievements he achieved with his players and his assistant staff during the last period, the club’s management announces the renewal of Mosimane’s contract for two years to come, other than the current season.

“The technical director of Al-Ahly and his assistants signed the new contracts and closed the door to all the various interpretations during the past weeks.”

Mosimane also guided the Red Eagles to the one Egyptian Cup triumph, two CAF Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals.

He will be looking to ensure that Al Ahly get their revenge when they face his former side, Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League Group A game in South Africa on Saturday.

Sundowns stunned Mosimane’s side 1-0 in their previous Group A game which was played in Egypt almost two weeks ago.
