Beston Chambeshi hopes Nkana can now stay consistent after sneaking back into the FAZ Super League top four over the weekend with eight games left to play.

Nkana beat Kafue Celtic 2-0 at home in Kitwe on Saturday to rise from seventh to number four putting them back in the race for a continental spot just a fortnight after they tumbled out of the top four.

“For sure it is a good result. The boys really worked hard for it and also throughout our training sessions before the game,” Chambeshi said.

“It is good we are back in the top four and all we need now is to make sure we maintain that consistency in our remaining games.”

But struggling Celtic made Nkana earn their return to the top four the hard way in a tightly contested game and the hosts had goalkeeper Kelvin Malunga to thank for keeping out at least four sure chances.

Ronald Kampamba put Nkana ahead in the 8th minute and it took until the 89th minute for them to score the final goal through captain Diamond Chikwekwe.

The win lifts the record 13-time Zambian champions to 40 points and are twelve points behind leaders Red Arrows.

Nkana trail third placed Green Eagles by six points and are a further seven points behind Zesco United.

Their current status is in total contrast to last season when the then defending league champions survived relegation on the final day of the campaign following a mass pre-2019-2020 season exodus of players due to financial problems.

“At least this win has boosted the teams’ morale and all the players need to do now is come on board to compete and to fight in our remaining eight games,” Chambeshi said.
