Zanaco ended their ten-match competitive drought on Sunday following a 2-1 home league win over Power Dynamos at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The Bankers trace their last competitive win prior to this weekend to January 7 when they beat Kansanshi Dynamos in another league match by the same margin at home.

Moses Phiri struck in the 22nd minute to give Zanaco a one-nil halftime lead but Power equalized in the 49th minute.

They stayed tight until the 80th minute when Ackim Mumba denied Power a share of the points with Zanaco.

Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu said there is little to celebrate right now with nine league games left for the mid-table side to try and make a now ambitious push for a top four finish.

“There is still a lot of work to be done and I think if you look at the way the log is, we are not too far but we are too close to everybody,” Kaindu said.

“We just need to be consistent in terms of the way we pick up points even in the next game.”

Zanaco came into the game against Power after three straight Group A defeats in the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup.

Before that, Zanaco had picked up seven successive league draws.

“Sometimes you go through a drought and you do everything right but at the last minute you concede a goal,” Kaindu said.

“But we are happy with the performance and at the end of the day it is the victory that matters.”

Zanaco are ninth on 34 points, four points behind sixth placed Power.

Meanwhile, Zanaco are back in action this Sunday when they host Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya at the same venue still hunting for their first Group A points.
