FAZ are still keeping their fingers crossed on Leicester City striker Patson Daka and Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu’s availability for Chipolopolo’s match-day-two home date against Tunisia.
The English Premiership-based duo is available to feature against hosts Mauritania in this Friday’s match-day-one FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifier in Nouakchott because the country is on the UK’s Covid-19 Amber List.
Zambia on the other hand is on the Red List meaning travellers from Lusaka would have to undergo mandatory ten-day quarantine upon arrival in the United Kingdom.
“The position on Patson and Mwepu is that we are still waiting for feedback from the EPL after FIFA and CAF engaged the authorities in England over the possible exemption for the players once they go back to England from the ten-day quarantine,” FAZ spokesperson Sydney Mungala said.
“We hope that in due course that the issue will be resolved but for now, we have to remain focused on Mauritania.”
Patson and Mwepu are in the Zambia camp ahead of the September 3 away clash against Mauritania clash.
But the status quo would see Mwepu and Patson miss the September 7 home clash against Tunisia at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
