Shepolopolo Zambia goalkeeper Hazel Nali has been given the all-clear but had to stay behind in Japan as a precautionary measure in hospital after sustaining an injury in the team’s final Olympics Group F match against Brazil on July 27.
Nali was stretchered off early in the first half with a head injury she suffered in Shepolopolo’s 1-0 loss to Brazil at Saitama Stadium. However, she did not travel back to Zambia with the rest of her teammates, who arrived back in Lusaka on July 29.
“She has been discharged now and stayed behind with the team Doctor. She had to be admitted to Saitama Hospital for observation. Being a head injury, they had to do a scan but it is all good now,” FAZ spokesperson Sydney Mungala told African Football.
Mungala said Nali is now expected to leave Japan this Saturday.
Nali sustained a head injury in the 13th minute after colliding with Brazilian striker Ludmila.
Ngambo Musole replaced her in the 19th minute of the match that Shepolopolo also had to play with ten women. Defender Lushomo Mweemba was sent-off in the 13th minute for a foul on Ludmila, whose momentum in that incident subsequently led to Nali’s injury.
