Shepolopolo Zambia captain Barbara Banda believes they were unlucky not to get a win over China on Saturday but that the 4-4 draw was still a positive step moving ahead at the Olympics following Wednesday’s emphatic loss to The Netherlands.

Zambia tested China’s resilience when they rallied from three-one down in the opening thirty minutes of the first half to lead four-three but later settled for a draw in their bottom of Group F clash on Saturday at Miyagi Stadium in Rifu.

Banda scored three goals against China to record her second hat-trick at The Olympics.

The result comes three days after Shepolopolo were humbled 10-3 on their Olympic debut by fellow tournament first-timers The Netherlands who are also 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup runners-up and current European champions.

“There is a lot of improvement from the first game. What we mostly wanted was a win but unfortunately we have settled for a draw,” Banda said.

“I like the team spirit that we have, we are working as a team and we are looking forward to the next game against Brazil.”

Bottom placed Shepolopolo are tied on 1 point with third positioned China are one point behind number two side Brazil and leaders Netherlands who drew 3-3 in Saturday second penultimate Group F match at the same venue.

Shepolopolo play Brazil on July 27 in Saitama knowing a shock victory there could see them through to the quarterfinals.

“We still have hope and we have a strong feeling that we can do something in the next game,” Banda said.
