Shepolopolo Zambia hope to revive their Olympic Women’s Football Tournament campaign this Saturday when they face China in their penultimate Group F match at Migayi Stadium in Rifu.

Zambia face China nursing some serious wounds from their 10-3 loss to fellow Olympic debutants and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup runners-up The Netherlands on July 21 at the same venue.

That loss left Shepolopolo bottom of Group F on zero points tied with third placed China who lost 5-0 to second paced Brazil on the same date.

But Shepolopolo coach Bruce Mwape is staying positive despite the prospect of qualifying as one of the best third placed sides in the twelve-team, three group tournament looking uncertain.

“We have the next game against China in which we must make amends for mistakes made in the first game,” Mwape said.

“We should make sure that we play well to motivate ourselves for the last group game against Brazil.”

However, there is some good news for Mwape following the return of defender Martha Tembo who missed The Netherlands match due to suspension.

In addition, influential striker Rachel Kundananji is also available after missing the Group F opener following her late arrival in Japan from her Kazakhstan club BIIK Kazygurt.

Kundananji’s arrival lifts the burden off captain Barbara Banda who single-handedly carried the team when she scored a hat-trick against The Dutch.
