Red Arrows on Saturday jumped from sixth to third place on the FAZ Super League log following a 2-1 away win over relegation-threatened Lumwana Radiants in Solwezi.
Arrows’ victory put them on 49 points, four points behind second placed Zanaco with two and three games left to play respectively in a tight top four battle for the remaining three 2021/2022 continental qualifying berths.
Leaders Zesco United, who have 61 points with four games left to play, have already clinched their CAF Champions League ticket after cementing a top two finish for this season.
All three goals in Solwezi came in the second half and Arrows took the lead in the 54th minute through Saddam Phiri.
But a Chewe Mukuka own-goal put second from bottom Lumwana back in the fight.
It took a stoppage-time goal from Joseph Phiri for the 2004 league champions to seal the three points.
Arrows victory sees them displace Lusaka Dynamos to fourth place where they sit on 47 points and the latter only take to the field on June 18 away to 12th placed Power Dynamos in Kitwe.
Meanwhile,Lumwana have been spared the prospect of demotion this weekend after 15th placed Nkana lost 3-2 away to Young Green Eagles but they must win their last two games to know their final fate.
Lumwana have 33 points, Napsa Stars who are just above them at number 16 have 36 points while Nkana and 15th positioned Indeni are tied on 37 points.
